Windows XP support

As you probably already know, Microsoft dropped support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. So what does that mean for MyInfo? (If you use newer version of Windows you can skip this article)

We will continue to support Windows XP

MyInfo will continue to support Windows XP for the foreseeable future. All MyInfo 6 updates will support XP and probably MyInfo 7 will support it too.

Disable internal viewer

However Microsoft’s end of support means that Internet Explorer will be no longer supported too. Because MyInfo uses Internet Explorer for its internal viewer for web pages, this may expose you to vulnerabilities in certain web sites. This is why we strongly recommend that you disable the internal viewer and open links only in your default external browser (which should be different than IE).

You can disable the automatic Internal viewer by doing:

  1. Click Tools > Options > Browser.
  2. Uncheck “Automatically open web pages and supported embedded files”.
  3. Click Save.

MyInfo on Mac and Linux

Although MyInfo has no native versions for MacOS or Unix yet, it is still possible to run it on such systems. This is a quick guide how to install and use MyInfo under Mac (using Crossover) and under Linux (using Crossover or using WINE).

MyInfo on Mac

To install MyInfo on Mac:

  • Download the trial version of CrossOver and install it.
  • Click “Install MyInfo Now” on the same page and install MyInfo following the instructions on the screen.
  • After MyInfo is installed, try to launch it. If it starts without showing any error message, then this is everything you need to do and you can skip the rest of the instructions.
  • If you however, get an error when you try to start it (“Abnormal program termination”), you can fix that by letting CrossOver use the proper library supplied with MyInfo instead of its own:
  1. Activate CrossOver.
  2. Select the “MyInfo” bottle
  3. Select the “Control Panel” tab, click “Wine Configuration”, and then click “Launch Selected Item”
  4. Select the “Libraries” tab.
  5. Either click the drop down box “New override for library” and find “gdiplus” in the list or type “gdiplus” in the text box.
  6. Click Add to add the “gdiplus” library as shown here:
    OS X Mountain Lion-2013-11-15-22-50-15
  7. Now you should be able to start MyInfo under MacOS without any problems

MyInfo on Linux

Installing MyInfo under Linux using CrossOver is the same as for Mac.

If you use WINE, you need to do the following to configure MyInfo:

  1. Open Crossover. In the top menu, select “Configure” then “Manage Bottles”
  2. Select the MyInfo bottle
  3. Select the “Control Panel Tab”, then click “Wine Configfuration”, then click on “Launch selected item”
  4. Select “Libraries” Tab.
  5. Click the drop down box “New override for library”
  6. Find “gdiplus”. Then click Add. The “gdiplus” library should be listed as here:
    Configuring WINE for MyInfo
  7. Now you should be able to start MyInfo under Linux/Unix without any problems
